As COVID restrictions are becoming more and more loose, more people are leaving their homes and going on vacations with their Frenchies after more than a year of the pandemic. So now that you can do this as well, what should you do to prepare for this?
The first thing you should do to prepare for your vacation is to make sure your Frenchie can go where you are going. Frenchies shouldn't be at places where you are going to be outdoors most of the time. While French Bulldogs love to play outside, they react very poorly to the heat. Frenchies should never be left to sleep outside, or left unattended outside. If you are walking your Frenchie outside, and the ground is too hot for your feet, it's too hot for them as well. Frenchies will also not know when to stop playing, and should be monitored when outside on a hot day.
Frenchies can tolerate cold a little better than the heat, but they should never stay too long outside when it is below freezing. Frenchies love to play in the snow, and fortunately, they can't overheat in it. They should still never be left outside when it's too cold.
Before traveling, owners should know the medical history and vaccination record of their Frenchie, so they know what to watch out for before traveling. If a Frenchie gets motion sickness easily, then a car trip is out of the question.
What to Bring:
Collar and leash
Food and Water bowl with enough Food and Water to last the duration of the trip
Poop bags
Carrying Crate/Kennel
Cleaning wipes and paper towels
Medications and vaccine records
What all Frenchie owners should do before traveling is to know their dog. If your dog is prone to being uncomfortable during long trips, or doesn't like car rides, then it is best to leave them at home.
